On Friday, February 11, 2022, at approximately 9:00am, Detectives from the King City Police Department, with assistance from the Salinas Police Department Violence Suppression Task Force and SWAT team, Greenfield Police Department, Soledad Police Department, Monterey County Probation Department, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation executed search warrants at a residence
located on the 300 block of Soberanes Street and a residence on the 200 block of 7th Street in King City, CA in furtherance of this investigation. During the search warrant service detectives contacted and arrested a 16‐year‐old juvenile male for three (3) counts of homicide. Prior to the service of the search warrants detectives developed probable cause to believe the juvenile was involved in the commission of the crime and obtained a Ramey Arrest Warrant, signed and authorized by a judge of the Monterey County Superior Court for his arrest. The King City Police Department wants to thank its public safety partners, the Salinas Police Department, the Greenfield Police Department, the Soledad Police Department, the Monterey County Probation Department, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office and the US Marshall Service for the ongoing support each agency has provided throughout this investigation. The King City Police Department is continuing its efforts to locate Elizar Ayron Arrellano and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Elizar Ayron Arellano (photograph attached). If members of the public know the whereabouts of Arellano they are asked to not attempt to contact Arellano as he is considered armed and dangerous and instead are asked contact the King City Police Department at 831‐755‐5111 and advise them they believe they have seen Arellano, the location and time where they saw Arellano, a description of Arellano’s clothing and any vehicle that may be related to him. This is an active and ongoing investigation and no additional information will be released at this time. Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
