At the conclusion of the Forensic Examinations conducted by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit it was determined Selena Gonzalez Godoy was pregnant at the time she was murdered. The Coroner Unit determined Ms. Godoy’s pregnancy had progressed in excess of 8 weeks. Due to Ms. Godoy’s pregnancy having progressed past eight weeks the Police Department has charged Raul Omar Lucas with one additional count of homicide and Rocio Villa Vasquez Martinez with one additional count of aiding and abetting in the homicide. On Friday, January 14, 2022, at approximately 10:00am, Detectives from the King City Police Department contacted 19-year-old Guillermo Becerra, a male resident of Salinas, CA in Salinas after developing probable cause he was involved in the commission of the murders. Becerra was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on three counts of homicide. The King City Police Department is continuing its efforts to locate Elizar Ayron Arrellano and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Elizar Ayron Arellano (photograph below). If members of the public know the whereabouts of Arellano they are asked to not attempt to contact Arellano as he is considered armed and dangerous and instead contact the King City Police Department at 831-755-5111 and advise them they believe they have seen Arellano, the location and time where they saw Arellano, a description of Arellano’s clothing and any vehicle that may be related to him. This is an active and ongoing investigation and the King City PD has determined one (1) additional suspect was involved in the murder of the victims. Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
