On Sunday night, December 12, 2021, at 6:28 pm, the King City Police Department was contacted by the Principal of King City High School who told officers he received information regarding a suspected threat of school violence. The suspected threat had been disseminated through the social media platform SNAPCHAT. The King City Police Department immediately began an extensive investigation into the suspected threats interviewing multiple juveniles, their parents, as well as high school staff and were able to identify 2 individuals suspected of disseminating the threat via social media. As a result of the investigation a 15-year-old juvenile male resident of King City, CA and a 15-year-old female juvenile resident of King City, CA were arrested for violating Penal Code 422 – Criminal Threats and were booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall. Investigations Unit personnel are continuing to conduct interviews and serve search warrants to collect additional evidence from social media platforms. Due to the arrest of the 2 suspects and the findings of their investigation the King City PD believes no further threat related to this investigation exists at this time to the school and community. The King City Police Department takes any threat to the safety of children, schools, or the community as a threat to the safety of the community and will deploy all available resources when this occurs. The King City Police Department thanks the students and staff who reacted so quickly to bring this suspected threat to their attention. Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
