Monterey County Board of Supervisors Suspend Indoor Mask Mandate; May Consider Revising Face Covering Requirement at December 8 Meeting

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting on Tuesday, November 16 voted in favor 3 to 2 to suspend a masking requirement of its Indoor Face Covering Ordinance, effective immediately. This means while wearing face coverings in indoor public settings remains strongly recommended, it is no longer required. The county’s indoor face covering ordinance is currently tied to CDC Community Transmission Rates. The requirement to wear masks indoors was triggered when Monterey County reached the “Substantial” level of those rates; however, the ordinance allows the Board the option to suspend those requirements, which they did. Additionally, at their upcoming December 8 meeting, the Board is expected to get a report on local metrics and COVID-19 data reporting and may consider revising its indoor face covering ordinance to be tied to local data reporting vs CDC rates. All county residents are reminded to continue to follow state face covering requirements (https://covid19.ca.gov/masks-and-ppe/) and that Monterey County’s Health Officer strongly recommends residents wear face coverings indoor public settings to help reduce virus transmission. The vote does not affect Monterey County’s requirement that face coverings be worn in all county worksites and facilities by both employees and members of the public (with limited exceptions).

Due to Cooper's level of impairment his vehicle went the wrong way on Highway 101 going directly into the path of Gomez' vehicle causing the rear of her car to crash with the front of the vehicle driven by Sangerman. King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
