Full Overnight Closure of Southbound US 101 in King City Set for Thursday October 28

MONTEREY COUNTY – A Caltrans pavement rehabilitation construction project along US 101 near King City will require a full overnight closure of southbound US 101 between Broadway and First Street. For the last several months, travelers have utilized the #2 (right) lane on southbound US 101 from Jolon Rd, across the Salinas River Bridge, and through King City. This overnight closure will help contractors pave and stripe the roadway to enable travelers to transition to the recently rehabilitated #1 (left) lane. Directional and electronic message signs will be activated to direct travelers and CHP will be on hand to provide additional traffic control. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes. Full Closure of Southbound US 101 in King City From Thursday October 28 at 9 pm to Friday October 29 at 5 am Southbound US 101 travelers will be detoured off at Broadway St. then directed back on to US 101 at the southbound US 101 First St. onramp. The Canal St. on and off ramps will be closed during the duration of the full closure. Following this closure, traffic will be shifted to the #1 (left) lane of southbound US 101 via striping and K-rail so that pavement rehabilitation as well as retrofit and widening of the bridge can continue in the #2 (right) lane behind the protective railing. Consecutive Ramp Closures of Northbound US 101 in King City Friday October 29 from 5 am to 2 pm Travelers on southbound US 101 will encounter a closure the offramp at Broadway St. as well as the southbound Jolon Road offramp and onramp. These ramp closures will permit crews to pave and stripe these ramps so that motorists can safely transition over to the #1 (left) lane. CHP will be on hand to assist with traffic control in the area. Long Term Closure of the #2 (right) lane of Southbound US 101 in King City Friday October 29, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Travelers will encounter a closure of the #2 (right) lane of southbound US 101 which will extend from about 2,000 feet north of the Jolon Road onramp to First Street. Traffic will be shifted to the #1 (left) lane of US 101 via striping and K-rail so that pavement rehabilitation as well as retrofit and widening of the Salinas River Bridge can continue behind the protective railing. The contractor for this $78 million construction project is OHL, USA of Irvine, CA. This project is expected to be completed at the end of May 2022. Suspect Vehicle in King City Quadruple Homicide on March 3 Has Been Located

  The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the King City Police Department is informing the community that the suspect vehicle involved in a quadruple homicide that occurred Sunday, March 3 on the 200 block of North Second Street in King City, has been located and recovered.  The vehicle was located in an unincorporated area of South Monterey County. The King City Police Department is receiving assistance from multiple local and federal law enforcement partners in this investigation. Based on the nature of this investigation, no further details regarding the recovery of this vehicle are being released at this time.   The Monterey County Sheriff's Office and the King City PD are asking the community for their assistance in reporting any information they may know regarding this incident which tragically left 4 people dead and 7 people injured, two with critical injuries. Attempted Homicide Shooting Incident in King City on September 29

  The King City Police Department received a report of gunshots heard in the area of the 600 block of Sycamore Street at around 1 am on Sunday, September 29. While enroute, the King City PD was advised that 2 victims were transported to Mee Memorial Hospital by private vehicle to be treated for gunshot wounds.   Upon arrival, officers were told that a single unknown suspect opened the gate to a fenced yard and fired 10 rounds into a crowd attending a party. 2 individuals were struck by the gunfire, after-which the suspect fled on foot.  The suspect was described as wearing a dark colored hoodie and pants. The 2 victims are a 16-year-old juvenile male who was shot 3 times and an 18-year-old male who was shot 1 time.  Both victims were transported to Natividad Hospital from Mee Memorial and are currently listed in stable condition. Detectives from the King City Police Department are currently working the investigation with assistance from the Greenfield Police Department Crime Scene Unit
