On Thursday night, July 22 at 10:39 pm, Monterey County Communications received a 9-1-1 call from an individual on the 300 Block of Mustang Court in King City who was whispering and requesting police assistance. Upon arrival to the area, King City Police Officers heard what sounded like a vehicle collision and then observed a red vehicle fleeing the area without its head lights on. A traffic stop was attempted on this vehicle at which time the vehicle failed to yield and attempted to flee from the area. When the vehicle was in the area of the intersection of Mustang Court and Willow Avenue 26-year-old Raul Fernandez of Soledad exited the driver side door and fled on foot. King City personnel, with the assistance of personnel from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, were able to apprehend Fernandez and take him into custody. Upon contact with the initial reporting party, it was discovered that Fernandez, who was armed with a loaded handgun and loaded shotgun, had forced his way into the individual’s apartment by breaking a window. Once inside the apartment Fernandez began forcing his way into bedrooms after which he located the victim hiding with juveniles. Upon locating the victim Fernandez threatened to kill the victim, struck the victim in the head, and dragged the victim from the room where the juveniles were located. Fernandez then fled the apartment in an attempt to evade arrest. Fernandez was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon causing Great Bodily Injury, Burglary, Felony Child Endangerment, Brandishing a firearm while committing a Felony, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Evading, Violation of Parole, Hit and Run and DUI. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
