Monterey County Alternate Housing Site Continues to Serve Residents; Program sees increased referrals as cases rise

A reminder to all Monterey County residents, the county’s Alternate Housing Site program is still available for those who test positive for COVID-19 and cannot safely isolate in their regular living arrangements while they recover. As the number of cases increases in Monterey County, so has the need for this safe recovery program. The number of clients in the housing program had been down to one last week, but in the last 2 days, that number has jumped to 12 with additional referrals still coming in. Monterey County’s Alternate Housing site program currently has 10 trailers available for use at San Lorenzo Park in King City. While the park is open to the public, the housing site area is off limits to the public and security is on site. The Alternate Housing program was launched in April 2020 utilizing trailers and hotel rooms for safe isolation and has served approximately 600 residents. Currently, only the trailers are in use. The program is staffed to assist and serve guests as they recover. All residents isolating in the program are provided meals and medical visits during their stay until they are released. The site also accommodates pets and service animals under certain restrictions. The Monterey County Alternate Housing Site Program is an important tool to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Acceptance into the Alternate Housing Site Program is by referral only. If you or someone you know is COVID positive and does not have a place to safely isolate, call (831) 356-3136.
