I have an update about 22-year-old Inmate Luis Armando Sarabia who escaped from the Monterey County Jail on Monday, January 18. According to the Monterey County Sheriff's after over a day of being on the run Sarabia turned himself into law enforcement at around 2 am on Wednesday morniong, January 20 and is back in custody. Sarabia broke out of the jail from an outdoor yard at around 3 pm on Janaury 18. Investigators suspect that other inmates in the yard distracted a deputy there and concealed the inmates as they were moved back to their housing unit. Since the escape was reported on Monday night, January 18 the Monterey County Sheriff's Office served two search warrants, one in Salinas and one in King City. In addition, the Sheriff's Office said that they alerted surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for him. Sarabia was arrested in January of 2019 for a homicide in Greenfield and is awaiting trial.

Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau. Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass. CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try t...
