The Hartnell Community College District has named Dr. Romero Jalomo, vice president of student affairs, to serve as acting superintendent/president of the college.
Hartnell Governing Board President Aurelio Salazar Jr. announced the appointment on Wednesday, June 17 following the board’s unanimous vote on Tuesday, June 16 to accept the resignation of Superintendent/President Patricia Hsieh.
Board policy allows Salazar to make such an appointment for up to 30 days in the event of a superintendent/president vacancy. Before that time period ends, the board will name an interim superintendent/president to serve during the search for permanent replacement.
Dr. Jalomo has been in his current role, overseeing all student services and support programs, since 2013. He returned to Hartnell following seven years in a variety of senior administrative roles with the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District, including service at San Jose City College as both dean of retention and support programs and dean of research, planning and development.
Previously, from 2000-05, he worked at Hartnell as director of EOPS and DSP&S. He also is a former faculty member at New York University and a former project director and part-time faculty member at Arizona State University.
Dr. Jalomo holds an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Harbor College; a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Information Systems from California State University, Chico; a Master of Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills; and a doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy from Arizona State University.
