Supervisor Lopez & California Water Service lend a Helping Hand to Local Families

Every Thanksgiving, families come together to share a meal and enjoy time together. For too many families in our community, the stress of putting food on the table can cause undue anxiety during this season meant for giving thanks. In partnership with California Water Service, Supervisor Chris Lopez is taking this opportunity to alleviate just a little bit of that stress. Working through local schools and non-profits, they are honored to be distributing care packages that include a turkey voucher from California Water Service, and a matching gift card to help put together all the trimmings that families need to gather around and enjoy a wonderful dinner.
Supervisor Lopez stated, “Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our lives and our many blessings. Growing up in Southern Monterey County, I learned that you look out for each other and take care of every member of your community. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with California Water Service to help make this season just a little brighter for those who need a helping hand.”
"We are pleased to partner with Supervisor Lopez to help improve the lives of those in the communities we serve," said Local Manager Marc Bloom. "We understand the financial stress the holidays can bring for those already struggling to make ends meet. That is why, every year around this time, we find opportunities to alleviate that stress and make the holidays a little brighter here in the Salinas Valley.”
Twenty-five care packages were delivered to several local organizations in Southern Monterey County who assisted in selecting and distributing them to families. Some of those organizations include: San Ardo Elementary School, San Lucas Elementary School, King City Kinship Center, Santa Lucia Elementary School in King City, Oak Avenue Elementary School in Greenfield, Jack Franscioni Elementary School in Soledad, Sun Street Center in Gonzales, and Chualar Elementary School.
Elvia Espino Ruiz, Family Student Liaison said, "Living and working in small communities has been a blessing, not only because you feel like you’re at home by seeing familiar faces all around, but you know help is there when there is a need to give back to the communities, and that's what I've received from County Supervisor Chris Lopez. Thank you to the Supervisor and California Water Service for providing families the opportunity to eat together and not worry about the struggle and cost for a family meal.”
