On Saturday morning, November 23 at about 4:30 am Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Grant Street in Chualar for an in-progress domestic violence incident. According to the call, 25-year-old Gilberto Perez Acosta had punched the mother of his child in the face and choked her. After the victim called 911, Acosta went outside to his truck. The first to arrive at the home was a deputy, alone and without immediate backup. Acosta repeatedly rammed his truck into the deputy’s patrol car in what appears to be his attempt to get away, but, the deputy remained calm. Acosta stopped ramming the deputy’s car when his truck became partially disabled and was taken into custody without further incident. The deputy suffered injuries during the assault and was treated at a local hospital. Acosta also was treated for injuries and is now in the Monterey County Jail without bail.
