New South Monterey County Road Projects Will Improve Agribusiness Travel


According to the  Monterey County Resource Management Agency, Public Works has begun two road projects in South Monterey County that will improve roads heavily used by agribusiness and winery tourism.
Work began on both Arroyo Seco and River Roads on Monday, September 30. Signage alerting users to the work is also now in place. Project impacts will be light the first week, but beginning on Monday, October 7, those who use these roads will see traffic control and a pilot car during construction hours which are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm.
Public Works is coordinating with area growers to reduce impacts of the projects on harvesting activities.
Pre-work studies on roadway viability were done last spring. In both locations, the roadway will undergo a complete transformation using an eco-friendly process. Crews will dig down 15 inches, bringing up materials that will be collected, recycled and reused with new material at the site to rebuild the roadway to last another 15 to 20 years. Another project benefit will be new, brighter striping that will be more visible at night in these areas which have no streetlights.
Project Details:
Arroyo Seco Road: work is taking place along an approximately one and a half-mile stretch between Highway 101 (milepost 21.21) and Paraiso Springs Road (mile post 19.88). Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Drivers will encounter traffic controls and a pilot car. This project is expected to run through November 27th. River Road: work will take place along a three-mile stretch between Chualar River Road (mile post 9.07) and Limekiln Road (mile post 12.20). Works hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers will encounter traffic controls and a pilot car. This project is expected to last through December 20th. Total cost for these projects is approximately $7.5 million, which is a savings of an estimated $1 million because the projects were put out to bid together and are being done simultaneously.

Monterey County DA Releases Preliminary Information Concerning an Officer Involved Shooting Incident that Occurred Outside of Soledad on December 16

  SALINAS, California- Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni on December 19 released preliminary information concerning the officer involved shooting (OIS) which occurred at about 1:20 a.m. outside the city of Soledad on December 16, 2025. King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position.
