On Sunday night, August 25 at 8:54 PM, Greenfield Police Officers attempted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver failed to yield and led officers on a low speed vehicle pursuit throughout Greenfield. At no time were other motorists or pedestrians in danger. The pursuit ended when the driver pulled into a gas station on the 100 block of El Camino Real. The driver sat in his vehicle and refused to comply with officers’ directives. An officer trained in crisis intervention realized the driver was in a mental health crisis and began negotiations. Once at the police station, a mental health evaluation was conducted and the driver was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Also assisting the Greenfield PD with this incident were the Soledad Police Department, the CHP - King City and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
