On Wednesday, August 28, at around 7:28 am, 29-year-old Joey McGraw of San Bernardino was heading Westbound in 1999 Acura TL on State Route 46 West of Antelope Road in Templeton attempting to pass a Truck Tractor and Trailer Combination. As he attempted to pass the Truck and Trailer, he realized that he didn't have sufficient clearance to pass without colliding into a Westbound vehicle. McGraw ended up turning back into the Westbound Lane, but due to his unsafe speed, he was unable to maintain control of his vehicle and swerved out of control into the Eastbound Lane. McGraw drove directly into the path of 67-year-old driver Michael Klassen of Pebble Beach who was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna and the vehicles collided head-on. The Commercial Truck Tractor and Trailer Combination were not involved in the collision. After the impact, the Toyota went over the South Side of the Highway and the Acura came to rest blocking the Eastbound Lane of Traffic. Both Drivers sustained possible fractures and were transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Alcohol and or drugs were not contributing factors in this collision which was not associated with the SR 41/SR 46 "Y" Intersection as it occurred about 1 Mile East of the Interchange.
