While both motorists were standing outside of their vehicles, they were struck by a Ford Transit Van driven by 56-year-old Jay Duston of Los Osos. Cantu was transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton and later died from her injuries, while Gomez was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for major injuries he sustained.
