Consequently, after traveling the wrong-way, Alvarado-Torres' vehicle collided with a Mazda 3, driven by 62-year-old Anne Neville-Olson of Atascadero in the northbound lanes. After the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the center median just south of the South Spring Street off-ramp. Immediately following the collision, Alvarado-Torres fled the scene on foot, while Neville-Olson sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision. Shortly after the accident, 55-year-old Monica Cantu of Paso Robles and 49-year-old Raul Gomez of Paso Robles who were traveling in separate vehicles northbound on US-101 came upon the scene to stop and render aid. While both motorists were standing outside of their vehicles, they were struck by a Ford Transit Van driven by 56-year-old Jay Duston of Los Osos. Cantu was transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton and later died from her injuries, while Gomez was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for major injuries he sustained.
