On Thursday, June 27 at around 6:30 am King City Police Officers responded to the area of the 600 block of South First Street as a witness reported seeing a male “tagging” the bridge near the railroad tracks in the area of Gill’s Onions. Upon Officers arrival, 2 males fled on foot from the East side of the bridge towards the 400 block of Jayne Street. After a short foot pursuit 22-year-old suspect Lance Joseph Barr of Oakland was captured, while the second suspect who was later identified as 21-year-old Ryan Alan Baca of Hayward evaded Officers by running into the river bottom. However, a secondary area check allowed Officers to see Baca in the river bottom. After a second foot pursuit Baca was located and placed into custody without incident in the river bottom. Barr’s vehicle was located near the scene of the crime. Located inside of Barr’s grey 2006 Toyota Matrix was an extremely large amount of aerosol paint cans, paint rollers, along with gallons of paint, markers, and other artwork items commonly used by tagging crews to commit tagging graffiti. Both suspects had fresh paint on their hands and clothing as well. The damages were valued at over $500.00 by the King City Public Works Department. Barr and Baca were placed into custody and were booked into the Monterey County Jail charged with a Felony count of Vandalism along with Conspiracy, Resisting or delaying an officer in the performance of their duties and Trespassing.
