Rose Escobar Named 2019 Miss Salinas Valley Fair



KING CITY, CA-Four young women competed Saturday, March 16 in the 2019 Miss Salinas Valley Fair contest and when the last judge’s sheet was tallied, Rose Escobar of Spreckles was chosen to represent the Fair. Also competing was August LaMacchia (Lockwood), Nicole Reynolds (Atascadero) and Sydney Gray (Salinas).
“I am looking forward to working with Rose to promote our 75th Salinas Valley Fair this spring”, said Darla Mantel, Competition Coordinator of the Miss Salinas Valley Fair contest.  “She is a skilled horsewoman and poised speaker capable of delivering an engaging invitation to inspire attendance to our Fair”.
Rose Escobar is the daughter of Gary and Cheri Escobar and is a Junior with the Monterey County Home Charter School. One of Rose Escobar’s dreams is to run for Miss California Rodeo Salinas and have the opportunity to represent the Salinas Valley western way of life. She has participated in the Pageant of Flags at the 2018 California Rodeo and in the California Rodeo grand entry parade in 2017. Her future plans are to study Equine Dentistry and one day to open her own equine training-rehabilitation facility.
As Miss Salinas Valley Fair, Rose receives a $2,000 scholarship, a Miss Salinas Valley Fair buckle, a jacket, a concho pin, a leather portfolio and many more prizes from area donors.
Dominque Mantel, a former Miss Salinas Valley Fair and 2016 Miss Rodeo Glennville, was emcee for the event and 2018 Miss Salinas Valley Fair, Teagan Soares, was on hand to assist with the distribution of prizes and the crowning of the 2019 Miss Salinas Valley Fair. Soares is currently attending Feather River College in Quincy, CA where she studies Agriculture and participates on the College Rodeo team.

King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. The King City City Council will formally consider the proposed city manager contract at its meeting on Tuesday night, January 13. Arreola's first day on the job is scheduled to be February 23.    José Arreola has a distinguished career of serving the community with a particular commitment to youth. He has worked for the City of Salinas for 12 years as their Community Safety Program Manager, Community Safety Administrator and Assistant to the City Manager. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
