A fire broke out off of 4th Street at Riojas Market in Soledad sometime after 1 am on Wednesday morning, January 23. Soledad, Greenfield and Correctional Training Facility Fire Departments were paged to the scene along with the South Monterey County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire to help extinguish the blaze. Cal Fire Investigators believe this fire was started intentionally as they found footsteps on the roof of the market and suspect that someone tried to burglarize the store through a skylight and when they couldn't get in, they lit the roof on fire. The roof received $20,000 in damages from the fire. No injuries were reported. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video in the area to try and gather more information.
