Monterey County Midterm election results update

Image result for midterm election updates

As you may know by now it's been over a week since the Midterm General election finished up and right now the Monterey County Elections Office is still slowly calculating all of the votes that came in by mail. As of Wednesday, November 14 over 56% of the votes have been counted. In the race for a District 12 State Senate seat it seems like Anna Caballero will win as she has now earned over 65% of the vote and Rob Poythress over 34%, while in the race for a District 30 Assemblyman position it appears that Robert Rivas will be the winner as he has now picked up over 70% of the vote and Neil Kitchens over 29%. In the race for Mayor of Greenfield Lance Walker has now earned over 44% of the vote, Avelina Torres over 39% and Raul Rodriguez still has over 15% of the vote, while in the race for a couple of Greenfield City Council seats it's still too close to call as Drew Tipton has 22.8% of the vote, Angela Untalon over 22.3%, Irene Garcia over 21.8%, Jessica Madrid-Bautista over 19% and David Mendoza over 13%. In the race for Mayor of Gonzales Maria Orozco now has over 80% of the vote and Henry Martinez Jr. over 19%, while in the race for a few Gonzales City Council seats Paul Miller has over 31.8% of the vote, Elizabeth Silva over 30%, Lorraine Worthy over 27% and Henry Martinez Sr. over 10%. Also in the race for a Soledad City Council seat Marisela Lara still has over 36% of the vote, Alejandro Chavez over 33% and Richard Perez over 29%. Nothing has changed with Measure O in the City of Gonzales as over 54% of voters have voted no and 45% have voted yes, while Measures K and L in the City of King are still receiving very good support from voters as Measure K has now picked up over 56% of yes votes and over 43% of no votes, while Measure L has now earned over 68% of yes votes and over 31% of no votes.

July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
