The King City City Council was in regular session on Tuesday night, November 27 at City Hall. Councilwoman Darlene Acosta expressed her concerns regarding how some residents are maintaining the lawns on their properties with Christmas coming up in less than a month. City Attorney Shannon Chaffin spoke about some laws that are in place regarding what Acosta brought forth. Chaffin said that the state of California passed some laws because there are people that are letting their lawns grow dead, while Home Owners Associations and other groups are penalizing people because of how they let their lawns go dead and the state passed certain laws restricting Home Owners Associations and cities from doing that. Chaffin also mentioned that there are some nuisance laws that are in effect in some cities too, but indicated that there may be some limitations he has to look at further. Local Manager Marc Bloom from Cal Water in King City said that lawns aren't the only aspect that make a home look great. Bloom stated that there are some native type landscaping that is drought resistant that can look very nice with any home adding that what Acosta seeing is a new California norm because if there is another drought anytime soon like the last one then it's only going to get worse. Bloom said that a lot of homeowners and businesses are buying into that change.
