More details have been released regarding a fatal accident that occurred on Wednesday about 1 mile south of Chualar on Highway 101 Northbound. The collision took place at around 4:18 PM, as a big rig pulling two trailers, was attempting to make a left turn from US-101 southbound, across northbound US-101 traffic lanes, to enter an agricultural field east of the highway.  For reasons still unknown, the driver of the big rig  failed to notice a vehicle approaching in his location which was a 2005 Nissan Altima on US-101 northbound.  As the truck crossed the northbound lanes, the Nissan collided with the side of the second trailer, becoming wedged underneath.  Following the collision, the truck and trailer combination continued to travel towards the east shoulder of US-101 northbound, with the Nissan still lodged beneath. The driver of the truck-trailer combination was not injured. The 36-year-old male driver of the Nissan Humberto Ayala, was transported to Natividad Medical Center where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. It is not believed alcohol or drugs played a role in this accident which remains under investigation. The California Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone when turning left to slow down, look both ways, and make sure that the oncoming lanes are clear.
