King City Sports Field Closures & Park Improvement Plan

Related image
At the Tuesday night, October 9 King City City Council meeting, the Council approved a King City Sports Field Improvement Plan. Due to overuse and lack of sufficient funds for maintenance, several of the City's sports fields are in poor condition. As a result, the City has developed a number of strategies to improve the fields over the next couple years and then enhance maintenance on an ongoing basis to keep the fields in better condition. The new plan will require a number of sports fields to be closed temporarily every 1 to 2 year period for maintenance and recovery. The first field to be upgraded is the City Park Softball Field, which will include leveling and reseeding of the turf. This project will be accomplished in partnership with the Adult Softball League. The Adult Softball League is coordinating the project and providing the majority of resources and labor. Therefore, the City would like to express its appreciation for their commitment to this effort. To accomplish this major renovation, the City Park Softball Field will be closed for any public use from Monday, October 15, 2018 to Monday, April 29, 2019. This will be followed by San Antonio Park fields, which will be closed for minor turf improvements and a recovery period from January 15, 2019 through March 31, 2019. A major renovation of the Creek Bridge Soccer Park is planned for late 2019. Sponsors and donations are being solicited. The King City City Council also approved a park naming program for any major sponsor willing to fund the entire project. The City appreciates the community's understanding and cooperation during implementation of these improvements.
