King City man arrested for robbery in King City

On Tuesday, September 4 at around 4:20pm officers from the King City Police Department and with the assistance of the Greenfield Police Department were dispatched to a business on the 800 block of Broadway Street for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Upon the officers arrival it was determined a male Hispanic took an undetermined amount of cash from the cash register at knifepoint from a clerk. The suspect then fled on a bicycle northbound on Canal Street and out of sight. Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit were called to investigate the incident.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the suspect entered the store, asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes and when the clerk turned around, the suspect pointed a knife at the clerk and demanded the clerk open the cash register. The clerk fearing for her safety opened the cash register and the suspect took an undetermined amount of cash from the register. The Investigators were able to identify the male suspect as 38-year-old Jose Raul Aceves of King City, who is also a known southern gang member, as the suspect. While Officers and Investigators were on scene, Aceves rode by the scene on his bicycle where he was confronted by the officers. Aceves was pushed off his bicycle and he fled on foot westbound on Broadway. As Aceves was fleeing he began pulling US currency out of his pockets and was throwing it in the air. The cash was recovered by the officers. A short foot pursuit ensued and Aceves was taken into custody after a short struggle on the 900 block of Broadway. During the booking process Aceves was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a syringe. Aceves was booked into the Monterey County Jail being charged with Armed Robbery; Assault with a deadly weapon (other than a firearm); resist of arrest by force; Possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine); Possession of drug paraphernalia.
