The Gonzales Fire Department has been going through some
wildland fire training this summer. Fire Chief Jason Muscio said that they've been working on hand tools within the last couple of weeks adding that he always likes to try and get his crew familiar what they're going to encounter in any incident involving heat, smoke and tools. Fire Chief Muscio stated that his fire crew hasn’t responded
to anything too serious yet this season other than a few fires that they've responded to in San Benito County with their water tender, but he knows that other areas of the
state haven’t been so lucky and indicated that one of his volunteer firefighters works for Cal Fire and is currently helping out with the Fergusson Fire in Mariposa County near Yosemite National Park.
