The California Highway Patrol will be stepping up their enforcement efforts this Labor Day weekend all over South Monterey County, Northern San Luis Obispo County and statewide. CHP Officer Patrick Seebart who covers Northern SLO County said that everyone who is not on vacation will be on patrol working from Friday, August 31 through Labor Day, Monday, September 3. During the 2017 Labor Day weekend maximum enforcement period in California there were 30 people killed in traffic collisions and more than 1000 arrests were made for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officer Seebart indicated that he and other Officers will be keeping a close eye on drivers speed, turning movements along with a special focus on DUIs and whether drivers are wearing their seatbelts at all or not this Holiday weekend. Officer Seebart suggests that motorists leave on time if they're going to be on the road during the Labor Day weekend adding that when you feel rushed that's when drivers tend to drive faster which may not be safe for you or the rest of the public. Officer Seebart also advised drivers to wear their seatbelts, don't do any distracted driving and to do not drive impaired.
