Road work and bridge work are keeping Transportation Agency for Monterey County crews occupied this
week in South Monterey County. There will be moving
lane closures along Highway 101 between Underwood Road beyond the King City
limits and Airport Boulevard in Salinas on Tuesday, July 31 from 8:30 am to 2:30
pm for vegetation spraying. One-way traffic controls will be in affect along
Highway 101 northbound off of Jolon Road in Bradley for bridge work this week
from 9 am to 3 pm until this Thursday, August 2. Night time striping operations
on Highway 101 from Soledad to Greenfield are taking place from 8
pm to 5 am until Friday night, August 3.
Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
