With it being so hot outside right now many pets, especially
dogs are having a tough time dealing with the summer heat. South County Animal
Rescue Board President Carla Stewart said that it's important that your animal has a nice shaded area outside with fresh water if they can't be inside during the day. Stewart suggested that when you take your dog for a walk make sure you do it early in the morning or later in the evening because if the temperature is at least 87 degrees outside then the asphalt can be as hot as 143 degrees which can affect the pads of dogs on the bottom of their paws. Stewart also suggested that pet owners put out a kiddie pool for dogs to jump in during the day so that they can cool off from the summer heat.
