The Farm Bill barely passed in the House on Thursday, June 21 by 2
votes about 1 month after it was rejected. District 20 Congressman Jimmy
Panetta said that one of the reasons why it was passed the 2nd time around was due to the fact that the House Republicans were able to come to a deal with far right Republicans dealing with the Freedom Caucus. Congressman Panetta is hoping that the Farm Bill will pass in the Senate and if it does pass he hopes it will represent their interests on the Central Coast involving their specialty crops, organics and especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Monterey County Farm Bureau Executive Director Norm Groot thinks the Farm Bill could benefit the Salinas Valley for research purposes involving harvesting because of the labor shortage in the area if it is
passed in the Senate and by President Trump.
