The cannabis industry is bringing more jobs to Greenfield

Image result for City of Greenfield in Greenfield, CA

On Thursday, April 5, 2018, Loudpack Farms released their latest employment figures for the recently completed Cultivation and Manufacturing Cannabis Facility located at 900 Cherry Avenue in Greenfield.

The great news from this expanding industry is that 278 jobs have already been created, and that 103 City of Greenfield residents (37%) of this total now have new jobs - jobs that did not exist a few months ago. With the opening of the 900 Cherry Avenue facility, Loudpack Farms is now the largest single employer in Greenfield. The breakdown of where these new employees live is as follows:

Greenfield   103
Soledad         39
King City       39
Gonzales         8
Chualar           1
Salinas          34
Other             54
Total             278

It is expected that 30+ new hires will occur at Loudpack Farms in the next few weeks. The above mentioned new job count does not include the construction jobs currently available and being filled as the major facilities under construction at 1071 Cherry Avenue, 710 El Camino Real and multiple other locations go up. Several hundred more permanent jobs will become available upon completion of these other facilities.

City Manager Jaime M. Fontes notes that using very conservative employment multipliers, the addition of these 278 jobs in Greenfield will likely lead to the creation of an additional 60 local jobs. The new jobs created by just this one new business will greatly increase local payrolls and the money these new employees spend at other businesses in Greenfield and in their home communities.

Fontes' further notes that great credit goes to the visionary City Council(s) that supported this economic endeavor and the citizens of Greenfield for the passage of Measure O in support of this industry.

July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
