A 2-vehicle accident took place on Highway 101 north near the
Wildhorse Road exit in King City on Sunday afternoon, April 29 at around 12:37 pm.
According to the CHP, a Dodge Ram made an unsafe turning movement causing it to
hit a Dodge Dakota Pickup which was pulling a trailer that rolled over. Three people were transported to Mee Memorial Hospital. No drugs or alcohol were a
factor in the crash. However, a small ¼ acre brush fire broke out after the
accident which was extinguished. Traffic was reduced to 1 lane and backed up
for over an hour.
Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
