A 2 vehicle accident took place southbound on Highway 101 on Hobson Avenue in King City at around 8:42 am on Thursday morning, April 12. The CHP
reports that 20-year-old Myriah Villanueva of Greenfield was heading east in a 2001
Chrysler PT Cruiser on Hobson Avenue, while 51-year-old Vinen Singh of Seaside
was driving a 2001 Toyota Sienna south on Highway 101 and as Villanueva drove
into an intersection, in an attempt to make a left turn onto Highway 101 north,
Singh approached the intersection of Hobson Avenue. The right front of Singh’s vehicle
collided with the left front of Villanueva’s vehicle. Villanueva was treated at
the scene and was not injured, while Singh was transported to Mee Memorial Hospital
complaining of pain in his neck. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt at
the time of the crash.
Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
