SOLEDAD, Calif. - A man is now in
custody for stealing a pit bull who was severely burned outside of Soledad.
Devonte Sirwet-Perea, was arrested early on Thursday morning, March 29 in
Salinas and booked into the Monterey County Jail for animal theft, animal
cruelty, arson, and possession of controlled substances.
On Tuesday, March 27, an American Pit bull was found severely burned on Metz Road by a Soledad
Police Officer just outside of Soledad. The dog was driven to a nearby vet hospital
and was euthanized for humane reasons. The dog suffered burns to
more than 90% of his body.
