On Sunday, March 11 at around 2:57
pm, the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to an apartment fire at 2041 Riverside Avenue in Paso
Robles. A Paso Robles Police Officer found an occupant of the apartment lying
on the floor in smoky conditions within sight of the open front door. The
officer, with assistance from a bystander, removed the occupant from the
structure. A Fire Battalion Chief arrived in under 4 minutes to find Paso Robles
Police Officers with a victim lying in the front yard and smoke coming from a
bottom floor apartment. The first arriving Engine Company treated the burn
victim and confirmed the kitchen grease fire was out. San Luis Ambulance
transported the victim to a local hospital with burn injuries to the hands and
body. Firefighters confirmed there was no fire extension to additional units
within the building and removed smoke from the residence. A total of 15
firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services, CalFire/SLO
County Fire and the Atascadero Fire Department responded to the fire.
Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown
July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.
