On Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:35 p.m., officers from the King City Police Department responded to a report of a domestic violence incident on the 1300 block of Sussex Circle in King City. A minor child in the home called her aunt telling her that her parents were fighting. The relative then called 9-1-1. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a possible fight in the driveway and on the sidewalk leading to the house. Numerous attempts were made to contact the parties inside but there was no response for some time. Officers then spoke to a female thru a window who was uncooperative and refused to come outside or provide any information. Due to the fact a child was in the home of domestic violence and evidence of injury to someone, this became an urgent matter to clear the house. For the safety of anyone in the home and responding officers, a barricaded subject negotiator and SWAT Team from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office were requested. Prior to arrival of the SWAT team, a female (identified as Vanessa Reyes & mother of the minor child in the home), exited the house along with the child.

The mother was taken into custody and was very uncooperative,
argumentative, and resisted officers. Mrs. Reyes told officers no one else was in the home. Upon arrival of the SWAT Team numerous announcements were made to anyone else who might be in the residence to exit the residence. A male adult (identified as Pablo Reyes, and husband of Vanessa Reyes), exited the residence and was taken into custody. Mr. Reyes too was hostile, uncooperative, argumentative, and resisted officers. The female adult identified as 30-year-old Vanessa Reyes, sustained a facial injury during the domestic altercation and was treated at a local hospital. The male adult identified as 33-year-old Pablo Reyes of King City, did not require any medical treatment. Pablo and Vanessa Reyes were both booked into the Monterey County Jail and both were charged with Resisting/Delaying or Obstructing an Officer and Child Endangerment. The matter will be referred to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office for review of the domestic violence incident. The King City Police Department was assisted in this incident by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, Soledad Police Department, and Greenfield Police Department.

Lake San Antonio Closed Due to Large Scale Fish Die Off; Number of Fish Impacted is Increasing and Reason for Die Off Remains Unknown

July 9, 2024- Out of abundance of caution for public health, County of Monterey Parks is closing the Lake San Antonio facility due to a large-scale fish die off from an unknown cause. On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
