Officials at Salinas
Valley State Prison in Soledad say an inmate was attacked there
on Friday. They said it happened just
before 11:30 that morning when staff responded to a disturbance inside Facility
B. That is where they found 19-year-old Jose
Alcantar-Ortega on the floor. Staff also
found tow inmate-manufactured weapons.
The victim and two suspects were removed from the cell. Alcantar-Ortega went to an outside hospital
for treatment of multiple stab wounds to his head, neck and chest. He died
three days later. Inmates 26-year-old
Alberto Cortez and 25-year-old Jaime Romero are suspects in the death and are
in a segregation unit at the prison.
