Time to Apply for a California Rodeo Salinas Scholarship; Students May Apply Through Hartnell College or The Community Foundation for Monterey County

 

SALINAS, CA, January 24, 2024 – The California Rodeo Salinas awarded a record-breaking $37,500 in educational scholarships last year and the application period for 2024 funds is open. There are two options for students: Salinas Valley high school students who are attending or graduating from Hartnell College can apply for the Hartnell Rodeo scholarship and students who are California Rodeo Salinas Committee Members or related to Committee Members may apply for the Community Foundation for Monterey County Rodeo scholarship. The Hartnell Rodeo scholarship program intends to award $2,500 scholarships to continuing students and $5000 scholarships to students transferring to another program. The Community Foundation for Monterey County Rodeo scholarship fund intends to award five $5,000 scholarships.   


The Hartnell application will open soon. Please see https://www.hartnell.edu/students/scholarships/.  The Community Foundation for Monterey County application closes on March 15th and can be accessed at https://cfmco.academicworks.com/opportunities/1202. Applicants need to click on sign up or sign in to create an account to apply. Students will be notified if they win a scholarship by May 1, 2024. 3 Vehicle Wreck on Highway 101 Outside of King City on December 26

  A 3 vehicle accident happened on Highway 101 Northbound near the Central Avenue exit outside of King City at 12:07 pm on Thursday afternoon, December 26. One of the vehicles overturned as a result of the crash. Minor injuries were reported from the collision. 

Greenfield Man Arrested for November 26 Attempted Murder Incident in King City

  On November 26, 2024, at approximately 4:05 PM, officers from the King City Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Broadway Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been shot multiple times and was transported by family members to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening wounds. Through investigation, detectives identified a possible suspect vehicle. A subject associated to that vehicle was contacted and later arrested for his involvement in the shooting. He is identified as 20-year-old Adrian Justo of Greenfield. Justo was booked into Monterey County Jail for attempted murder. There is no additional information at this time and the investigation is on-going.
