King City PD Investigating Tax Preparation Service for Fraud

In February of 2022, the King City Police Department was contacted by multiple members of the community who believed that they had been defrauded by their tax preparation service. Due to the scope of the investigation involving possible violations of not only state law, but federal law violations, the King City Police Department contacted the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for assistance. On Thursday, July 14, 2022 special agents form the IRS with assistance from officers of the King City Police Department served a search warrant on “Rito’s Insurance” located at 322 Broadway St., Suite #A in King City, Ca 93930.
This investigation is ongoing, and they believe there may be other members of the community who may have been victims of fraud during the filing of their tax returns.  If you observe any area of your tax return that has been “whited out” or altered this should warrant further review by law enforcement. The King City Police Department encourages all members of the community who utilized “Rito’s Insurance” for tax preparation services to review their taxes and if they suspect anything fraudulent to contact the Sergeant John Dow of the King City Police Department at (831) 386-5969 or jdow@kingcity.com; or the WeTip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.  Your call may remain completely anonymous.
