King City Rotary Recognizes Steve Adams for Outstanding Service to the Community

King City, Calif. – King City Rotary has recognized Steve Adams with its highest honor, Rotarian of the Year. The award recognizes Adams’ constant commitment and active involvement to the club and community. Adams has been a Rotarian for 20 years and has served as president for both the King City and Pismo Beach – Five Cities clubs. During his term as president of King City Rotary in 2019-20, he helped start the Interact Club at King City High School and secured a grant for the students to paint a mural on the campus depicting the theme of “make a difference in the world.” “Steve was essential in getting the Interact Club off the ground. He volunteered endless hours and took an active role in working with the students,” said Oscar Avalos, current president of King City Rotary. “It was fantastic to see the local Interact students come together and begin to make a real impact in the community as they learned the Rotary values of service above self.” Under Adams’ leadership the club also embarked on an international project in Uganda to help construct a home through the Youth Focus Africa Foundation. While COVID-19 made it impossible for the group of local Rotarians and students to travel to Uganda, the house was completed. Late last year, Rotarians heard about the construction and saw photos of the family now occupying the home via Zoom from Uganda. Because of this project, and many other contributions, King City Rotary was named a 2019-20 Club of the Year. “The last part of Steve’s term as president also forced adjustments to club meetings and events because of COVID-19. He helped us smoothly pivot to weekly meetings by Zoom and continues to serve on the club board of directors,” added Avalos. “It’s impossible to quantify all of Steve’s contributions. His dedication, leadership and commitment are extraordinary and he’s so deserving of this honor.” Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs. For more than 80 years, King City Rotary has been actively volunteering and supporting local programs to improve the community.
