Death of SVSP Inmate investigated as a Homicide

SOLEDAD – Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) officials are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred in one of the prison’s maximum security yards just after 9 pm. on Monday night, October 15th. 33-year-old inmate Armando Wehr was found unresponsive in his cell with multiple wounds. Officers quickly intervened and initiated life-saving measures and at 9:35 pm. Wehr was pronounced dead at the institution. No suspects have been identified at this time. SVSP administrators have limited inmate movement on the facility where the incident occurred to facilitate the investigation. Wehr, was received by CDCR in March of 2011 from Contra Costa County with a sentence of life with the possibility of parole for second-degree murder, plus 25 years for intentional discharge of a firearm. Officials said that a riot broke out at the prison's correctional training facility hours after the inmate was killed at the Soledad facility. The large fight began at around 8:30 am on Tuesday morning, October 16. Four to five inmates were injured during the morning fight and no correctional officers were hurt.

3 Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 in Soledad on December 7

  A 3 vehicle crash ocurred on Highway 101 Southbound near the Front Street exit in Soledad at 4:01 pm on Thursday afternoon, December 7. Minor injuries were reported as a result of the collision. 

1 Vehicle Rollover Outside of King City on October 20

  1 vehicle overturned off of County Road 18 and Frudden Road outside of King City at 2:34 pm on Friday afternoon, October 20. 1 occupant received injuries as a result of the crash and ended up being transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas to be treated. The cause of the wreck is unknown.
