King City, CA -- The Salinas Valley Fair is seeking young adults for its Junior Fair Board (JFB).  As many as 35 members are selected to volunteer throughout the year on behalf of the Salinas Valley Fair. Their efforts include assisting at Fair events, providing outreach along with the planning, developing and coordinating of events.  This year’s Junior Fair Board will have the added honor of serving during the 75th Annual Salinas Valley Fair and the celebrations planned to recognize this milestone.

“Our Junior Fair Board is a tremendous asset to our organization providing over 1,800 volunteer hours, annually. Their service ensures that the Salinas Valley Fair provides quality programs to our growing community”, says Salinas Valley Fair CEO, TJ Plew.  “This year the need for applicants is greater than in year’s past.  Most of the members from last year have graduated high school or have aged out of the program.  We are seeking twenty-six more members to work with the nine Junior Fair Board members returning to the board”.

The fair is seeking youth at least 14 years of age and not older than 21.  Applicants are to be enrolled in a high school, college or technical school program at the time they begin their service on the Junior Fair Board.

Junior Fair Board members are selected based on the information submitted in their applications without regard to race, religion, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, ancestry or disability.  Candidates must demonstrate an interest in leadership by showing examples of where they have taken initiative at school and within their communities. The selection process includes an interview and all applicants will be notified by mail regarding selection.

Selected members participate in monthly meetings, must attend one board meeting of the Salinas Valley Fair, and assist with special projects throughout the year. An average student will commit about 3 hours a month to the JFB leadership program and must be available to work during the annual fair May 16-19, 2019 in King City.

Applications for the Salinas Valley Fair Junior Fair Board must be received by Friday, October 12.  Applications are online at www.SalinasValleyFair.com, a form can be downloaded or the form can be completed and submitted online.  Interviews will be held on Tuesday, October 16 at 7 PM at the Orradre Building in King City.
